Try Your Luck: Island Casinos
 |
Are You a High Roller?
Visit a casino on St. Maarten and you’re sure
to hear the term “high roller.” What is
a high roller?
“That designation is based on a player’s
credit line, how long they play and how big the bets
are,” explains Tony Peterson, manager of Diamond
Casino on Front Street in Philipsburg. “So the
term ‘high roller’ varies from casino
to casino. A high roller here, for example, could
be somebody who places a minimum bet of $300.” |
Whether you play the nickel slots or go for bigger stakes, it's a sure bet that you'll enjoy yourself in one of St. Maarten's thrill-a-minute casinos.
The sights and sounds of the casino are synonymous with excitement. It's an adventurous environment where fate reigns and the room ripples with energy. And casinos also are romantic. Perhaps that's because of the anything-can-happen atmosphere that permeates them.
Those who are feeling lucky, may want to visit the casinos. If you want to make a night of gambling, check out Casino Royale in Maho. The casino is home to a magnificent theatre that hosts a variety of shows throughout the year, including Latin revues, magicians and comedians.
No matter what you like to play, you'll find a casino that's right for you. A small, intimate room, resounding with the sounds of flying chips, clinking glasses and happy laughter may be to your liking. Or maybe you go for larger casinos, where the action is amplified. Whatever your preference, each casino creates its own special environment. Explore St. Maarten's many casinos to determine which best suits your taste. All casinos, however, maintain that same level of excitement. They're staffed by friendly, knowledgeable professionals who will gladly explain the house rules and odds. You can feel perfectly comfortable asking questions about anything. After all, you're on the Friendly Island.
St. Maarten's casinos offer a full array of games, including blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and Let it Ride (a form of poker). Caribbean Stud Poker is a fairly new game played in much of the Caribbean. Unlike traditional poker, where players compete against each other, players in this game play against the house. And Caribbean Stud offers some of the largest jackpots - often starting at $10,000 and more.

But St. Maarten's casino scene isn't just about gambling. Casino Royale in Maho also offers a theater, with variety shows six nights a week in peak season - everything from magic shows to circus acts.
Visiting an island casino is sure to be one of the high points during your visit to St. Maarten/St. Martin.
