Profile of a Fisherman
Lee Halley was born in Simpson Bay, a traditional fishing village. As a boy, he loved to dive and spear fish. It’s no wonder then that he grew up to become a commercial fisherman, like his father, Gaston.
Halley started out in 1973 with a locally built 18-ft. boat. Today, with three boats, he offers visitors half- and full-day fishing expeditions. And in the rich waters around St. Maarten/St. Martin, you’ll find a variety of fish, including kingfish, yellowtail snapper, jackfish and trigger bottom fish.
Of course, “there is nothing in the world like landing a marlin,” says Halley, a member of St. Maarten’s Angler Association. “But the best sport fishing is for mahi mahi.”
